Live Algorithms
An approach to building interesting responsive musical software objects for improvisation. LAMs are not really perceived (in my mind) as virtual musicians but have the creative potential to inspire interesting musical responses. The LAM agenda is strongly inspired by cybernetics or its more recent incarnations, artificial life and dynamical systems theory, but also recognised as a bit of a mystical art. The above figure depicts the output of a dynamical neural net which is being driven by external musical input and is being used to drive a generative musical system.
